I love oatmeal. I recall many years ago when I just started living in Maryland, every time I mentioned that I loved oatmeal, people would give me strange looks and they would tell me how much they could not stand the taste of it. I soon leant why; most recipes I came across involved dumping oatmeal into some boiling water and adding sugar. Folks, that’s not the way to prepare oatmeal if you want to enjoy it. I grew up making oatmeal this way where you patiently allow it to boil for a couple of minutes with a balanced combination of salt, water and milk. You can enhance the flavor by enjoy adding fruit or sweeteners as preferred. With this recipe, you get the best of both worlds; you still get a warm and incredibly tasty breakfast with lots of nutritional benefits.
Note: If you are lactose intolerant or do not take milk, you can substitute it with non-dairy creamers or soy milk.
