Jalapeño Rings with Bacon and Sweet Bell Peppers

It’s time to get more adventurous with our flavors! We are talking about a combinations of hot and tantalizing Jalapeño peppers, combined with sweet bell peppers and to top it off, savory crispy bacon bits.

These Jalapeño rings are a great addition to take to any party or game day. Your guests will either love you or if you are going to someone else’s home, you will be their favorite guest.

If you are sensitive hot foods and spices, don’t let the fact that we are dealing with hot Jalapeño peppers discourage you. This recipe is designed to help bring down the heat by removing seeds. The addition of the red bell peppers and the bacon add a layer of complexity to the flavors which makes these Jalapeño rings,  tremendously enjoyable.

Fresh green Jalapeño ring slices coated in crispy bacon pieces and sliced sweet bell peppers and deep fried in vegetable oil

  • 10 whole jalapeños
  • 5 slices bacon
  • 1/2 whole red bell pepper
  • 2 fresh eggs
  • 1 cup panko bread crumbs*
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup allpurpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp. salt as needed to taste
  • 1/4 tsp. ground black pepper
  • 1/2 Qt. vegetable oil for deep frying
  1. Gather all ingredients as shown above.

  2. Fry bacon slices in a skillet for 5 minutes or until brown and crisp. Remove the bacon slices from the skillet, set them aside and leave them to cool down for 2 minutes. When the slices are cool, dab them with a paper towel to drain the excess fat.

  3. Mince the bacon slices in a blender for about 10 seconds and set them aside.

  4. Put the red bell pepper in the blender, add 4 tsps. of water (to help with the blending) and blend for 30 seconds or until the pepper is completely minced.

  5. Using a pairing knife, cut off the head of the Jalapeño peppers and make slightly thick slices about 1/4". Brush off the seeds to reduce the heat of the Jalapeño peppers. If brushing off the seeds becomes tedious, you can also remove them by placing the jalapeno slices under running water. Blot the the Jalapeño peppers dry and sprinkle them with salt and black pepper and set them aside. 

  6. Beat the eggs in a bowl.  In a separate bowl, place Jalapeño slices then Add 5 tables spoons of the red bell peppers then add all the minced bacon. add 2 to 4 tablespoons of all purpose flour. Mix gently( to avoid breaking the rings) to create a paste. 

  7. To coat the Jalapeño rings, pick up individual slices, first dip and roll in all purpose flour, then dip in egg and then lastly dip in panko bread crumbs. 

  8. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet on high temperature. Drop the Jalapeño rings and fry at medium temperature on each side for 11/2 or until golden brown. 

  9. Place Jalapeño rings on paper towels to cool and dry. Serve with your favorite dipping sauce. for this recipe, I quickly mixed 2 tablespoons of mayo with 1 teaspoon of the remaining blended red bell peppers to create a remoulade like sauce. Enjoy

*Any other kind of breadcrumbs can be substituted for the panko.
